Burnsville Would Welcome Trader Joe's, Says Economic Development Coordinator

Burnsville has worked with businesses before and would work with Trader Joe's if the opportunity arose.

Support for "Bring Trader Joe's South of the River Twin Cities" has grown to over 2,000 likes on Facebook. The popularity of the group gained the attention of Burnsville's Economic Development Coordinator, Skip Nienhaus.

"Obviously there is a desire to have Trader Joe's south of the river," Nienhaus said.

A Trader Joe's Burnsville location makes sense, Nienhaus added, because Burnsville is a retail hub for cities south of the river.

Nienhaus left two messages on the "Bring Trader Joe's South of the River Twin Cities" Facebook page.

The first:

Burnsville is the retail hub south of the river & will gladly work to accommodate Trader Joe's.

The manager of the page reported the second message:

Please feel free to share with your followers Burnsville's willingness to do what we can to accommodate Trader Joe's move to Burnsville. Thanks for your efforts to show how they would be successful if they established a location south of the river - preferably Burnsville.

Nienhaus pointed to the city's effort of seven years to bring Costco to Burnsville. It was something that many residents wanted, he said, but it took time to find the right space for the company.

Everyone loves Trader Joe's, he added.
