Ukelele Playing Businessman Dies at 98

Otto S. Hirschoff, of Lakeville, had a green thumb, a good golf swing and a light spirit.

Otto S. Hirschoff, of Lakeville, passed away on Jan. 14, 2013 at the age of 98.  Hirschoff was born to Alvin and Rose (Ormianer) Hirschoff on March 28, 1914. During his working years, Otto owned The Ski Den sporting goods store near the University of Minnesota campus. He operated the business for 33 years. He is described as an avid golfer and a skilled vegetable gardener, whose cherry tomatoes were sold locally at Byerly's and Valley Natural Foods in Burnsville. He also loved to sing and play the ukelele. "You couldn't attend a get together with Otto without having a sing-along to the 'old time' songs of the 20s and 30s," His family writes. Former Burnsville Principal, Local GOP Heavyweight Dies at 100

Walter Kloepping Klaus, 100, was State House Representative for Dakota County from the late 1950s to the mid-1970s.

Walter Kloepping Klaus died Nov. 16, 2012 at the age of 100. He was born April 19, 1912, the third and youngest child of George H. and Wilhelmina Kloepping Klaus at his grandfather's home in Empire Township, just a few days after the sinking of the Titanic. Klaus was reared in rural school system before attending Farmington High School and Hamline University. He studied teachingbut initally stayed on the family farm in Vermillion Township, called "Gentlehill." During World War II he stayed on the homefront due to an agricultural deferment, though he chaired the county USO. During the '40s he became active in the Republican Party. Obituary: Kenneth Harold Dwire, 66

Kenneth H. Dwire, of Lakeville, passed away unexpectedly on November 12, 2012 at the age of 66. He is preceded in death by his father, Harold Dwire. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Mary (Ott) Dwire; children, Sandy and Todd (Mindy) Dwire; mother, Orda Mae “Lou” Dwire; siblings, Debbie, Phil (Karna) and Tim (Tonya) Dwire; grandchildren, Kirsten, Shane, Cole, Karlie, Garrett and Isabelle; also by nieces, nephews and friends.   A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Burnsville. Visitation is set for 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15, at White Funeral Home in Lakeville and one hour prior to service. A private interment will be held.

Michael M. Press, of Burnsville, passed away on Nov. 14, 2012 at the age of 51. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert and brother, Charles. Press is survived by his loving mother, Ann and sister Laurie; also by other loving relatives and friends. A memorial service for Press is scheduled at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012 at White Funeral Home in Burnsville. There will be a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service.

Audre Jane Bruesehoff, of Burnsville, passed away on Nov. 10, 2012 in Roseville, MN at the age of 77. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill. Bruesehoff is survived by her nephew, Todd (Sheila) Anderson and neice, Carolyn (Doug) Woods; also by other loving relatives. A funeral service was held on 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012 at White Funeral Home in Burnsville.

Avid Sportsman, Drag Racer Dies at Age 31

Burnsville resident Mark Austin Smith, 31, died due to complications resulting from kidney disease and blood clots.

Mark Austin Smith, of Burnsville, died on Nov. 8, 2012 at Fairview Southdale Hospital due to complications of kidney disease and blood clots. He was just 31 years old.  Smith's family describes him as a gregarious young man with a contagious sense of humor. He was an active man who loved to hunt and ice fish. While in school he also loved sports, particularly basketball, football, skateboarding and soccer, "his true love." He was a longstanding member of the traveling soccer team for Valley United.  He was also an automotive enthusiast. After graduating from Apple Valley High School, Smith attended Dakota County Technical College where he studied to become an autobody technician. Two-time Veteran, Honeywell Executive Dies at 86

Angelo P. Ciprari, or "Chip" as he was called, died on Nov. 4, 2012.

Angelo "Chip" Ciprari, of Burnsville, passed away on Nov. 4, 2012 at the age of 86, after an illness. Chip was born in Southbridge, MA. He was a graduate of Oklahoma State University and he served his country in the armed forces during two separate conflicts, as a Navy man during World War II and an Army volunteer in the Korean War. After his service concluded, he enjoyed a long career at Honeywell, where he was a marketing executive. He retired after 31 years. His beloved wife, Madeline, passed away in 1987. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Elia and Guiseppina Ciprari; brothers, Eli Ciprari and John Ciprari; and sister, Nina Bousquet. Steven Michael Toms, 35, a well-known trainer at Lifetime Fitness, died on Oct. 30.

Steven Michael Toms, of Prior Lake, passed away Oct. 30, 2012 at age 35. Toms was a longtime resident of Austin before moving to the south metro area. He was a longtime Personal Trainer at Lifetime Fitness. He is preceded in death by his grandparents: Nancy, Dorothy, and Clifford. He is survived by his loving wife, Ashley; beloved son, Jameson; parents, Roger and Lisa Toms; grandfather, Raymond Toms and also by other loving relatives and many dear friends. Robert O. Doig, of Burnsville, died on Oct. 26 at the age of 77. He is preceded in death by wife Eleanor, four brothers and two sisters. Doig is survived by sister Virginia Wagner, brother James (Cheryl) Doig, and by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
