More Boy Scout 'Perversion Files' May be Released

AP report: Case originated with suit against Burnsville Scoutmaster Peter Stibal II, serving a 21-year sentence for molestation.

  A lawsuit filed by a victim of Burnsville's Peter Stibal II, now serving a 21-year prison sentence for molesting four Boy Scouts, has resulted in an order that the national scouting organization release files documenting the sexual abuse of children from 1999 to 2008. According to this Associated Press report, Ramsey County District Judge Elena Ostby issued the order Tuesday. Stibal was sentenced in 2011; his troop frequently met at River Hills United Methodist Church, court documents said. The documents Ostby is seeking are from internal Boy Scouts of America records that chronicle allegations of abuse, often called the “perversion files.” Some of those files were public by court corder in Oregon last year. Boy Scouts' 'Perversion Files' Include Former Burnsville Man

Records released this week show that a 19-year-old man was kicked out of the organization after admitting to taking "indecent liberties" with boys in 1966.

A 19-year-old airman in the U.S. Air Force in the mid-1960s, who worked for several months with a Burnsville Boy Scout troop, is among those listed in the organization’s so-called “perversion files,” released this week by court order. Robert James Sykes was involved with a Burnsville troop for eight months in 1965 and 1966 before moving on to Michigan, where he was accused of inappropriate sexual conduct, according to those files.  The files were used as evidence in a 2010 molestation lawsuit against the Boy Scouts. A jury ultimately awarded $20 million to a man who was molested by an assistant scoutmaster in the 1980s. Our hearts go out to all the boy scouts who have been sexually abused, they never deserved to be treated so inhumane. Child predators need to be kept far away from kids forever... BUT, an even more powerful danger is when high ranking officials enable, empower, and cover up these crimes against kids.
