The Minnesota State Patrol has released the name of the woman killed in yesterday's crash at the intersection of Highway 13 and Dakota Avenue.
A broadside crash on the west side of Savage has left one person dead. Maria M. Mendez, 68, was killed yesterday during a crash on Highway 13, about half a mile west of downtown Savage. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash occurred shortly after the tow truck made a left turn off of westbound Highway 13 onto Dakota Avenue South. The left turn lane at that intersection is regulated by a yield sign. The tow truck was hit broadside by a 2010 Kia Soul, which was traveling east on Highway 13. According to the state patrol, the driver of the tow truck failed to yield. The driver of the Kia, 16-year-old Jacqueline A. The former Senate staffer and Eagan resident was seriously injured on Jan. 23 when he lost control of his vehicle on the Interstate 35E bridge near Lilydale.
Eagan resident Michael Brodkorb—a former Senate staffer whose meteoric rise in the GOP ranks once made headlines—now faces criminal charges in connection to a traffic accident in January. Lilydale City Attorney Thomas Lehmann charged Brodkorb with two misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree DUI, one misdemeanor count of careless driving and one petty misdemeanor seatbelt violation. If convicted on one of the DUI charges, Brodkorb could face a maximum of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine. The seatbelt violation is a petty misdemeanor punishable with a $300 fine. The Minnesota State Patrol says a 26-year-old Farmington resident was killed and three others injured.
At least one person was killed and two injured in a five-person rollover accident that shut down the northbound lanes of Cedar Avenue on Sunday night, according to Minnesota State Patrol officials. Emergency responders closed Cedar Avenue at McAndrews Road/County Road 38 following the accident, which occurred shortly before 6 p.m., according to the State Patrol website. State Patrol investigators say a GMC Savana van with two occupants was traveling southbound on Hwy. 77 when it veered, hit a metal guard rail and traveled into the northbound lanes of Hwy. 77, according to state patrol officials. At that point, the Savana struck a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe traveling northbound. The Tahoe had three occupants at the time of the collision. …

Lt. Eric Roeske of the Minnesota State Patrol told KARE 11 that the crash involved seven to eight vehicles, including a semi-tractor trailer. The crash occurred at the ramp merging I-35W and Cliff Road, a junction that has been in the news often in recent months. In early September, one Burnsville woman was left in critical condition after a three-car pileup at the same spot.

The crash killed Frederick Jeffery Alexander, 16, of Burnsville, who was pronounced dead at the scene of the 2:30 p.m crash. Authorities say John Ohlsen, 31, died on Friday after his car ran off the road.

The Minnesota State Patrol reports that John G. Ohlsen was involved in a fatal accident that occurred around 9 p.m. on Friday, as Ohlsen was driving on a road cutting though the Battle Creek Regional Park. Authorities say his Jeep initially swerved into the median and oncoming traffic on U.S. Highway 61. Ohlsen overcorrected, ran into a ditch and hit a tree. Ohlsen died at the scene. Lee Johnson, a 49-year-old Burnsville resident, was ejected from his Chevy Suburban during an accident on Highway 371.
A local man was seriously injured on Sunday when he lost control of his vehicle on Highway 371 up north. According to a report from the Brainerd Dispatch, 49-year-old Lee Johnson lost control of his vehicle as he was driving in the south bound lanes around 2:20 p.m. The Suburban veered into the median and rolled, ejecting Johnson from the vehicle. Johnson was the sole occupant of the SUV. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The state patrol reports that he suffered serious but non life-threatening injuries. Johnson was transported to St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls for medical care.

Thursday, a sharp-eyed trooper from the Minnesota State Patrol caught a woman driving in a MnPASS lane on I-35W with a mannequin masquerading as a passenger.
An Eden Prairie woman was cited Thursday morning for driving in the MnPASS lanes on Interstate 35W with a counterfeit carpooler in her backseat—a bald, beige dummy dressed in a sweatshirt and neon orange sunglasses. Ideally, the MnPASS lane is available only to those who pay an electronic toll or those who carpool with living, breathing human beings. The Minnesota State Patrol promptly posted the encounter on Facebook and issued two citations to Crystal Allen, 29, according to a report from the Pioneer Press: One for driving with a suspended license and another for failing to obey a sign. Police arrested Dmitri Quillan Van Valkenburg, after the man allegedly fled from officers in a vehicle and on foot.
Despite the fearful pleas of his passenger to stop, police say an intoxicated 38-year-old Bloomington man led officers on a car chase, on March 18, that spanned four cities and reached speeds of 100 MPH before finally ending in Lakeville. Dmitri Quillan Van Valkenburg, of Bloomington, faces one felony count of first-degree driving while impaired, one felony count of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle and one misdemeanor count of fleeing on foot, among other criminal charges. If convicted of the first-degree DWI, Van Valkenburg could face a maximum of seven years in prison and $14,000 in fines. What appears to be a two car accident has brought traffic to a halt on the east branch of Interstate 35 near the exit for County Road 11.
What appears to be a two-car crash has occurred in the northbound lanes of Interstate 35 East, between County Road 11 and Cliff Road. One car is disable on the shoulder. Another badly damaged vehicle lies at the top of a steep embankment. Traffic is at a standstill. Alternate routes suggested. More details to follow as soon as they are available.
