Toby is just one of many cats and dogs waiting for new homes through Last Hope pet rescue.

Editor's note: This is a weekly series called "Pet of the Week" where Burnsville Patch will feature a companion up for adoption from Last Hope animal rescue. He is ball crazy!  Got to see by coming to the Apple Valley Petco on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. or call Kim at  612-578-3350. The adoption fee is $175. Adopt Buddy, a Labrador Mix in Need of TLC

When Buddy was taken in by Last Hope the dog was more than 20 pounds under weight.

Follow us on Twitter | Like us on Facebook | Sign up for our daily newsletter| Blog for us Buddy is a gorgeous 5-year-old Labrador something—maybe mixed with a greyhound or Irish wolfhound. He's tall, though, like a Great Dane. He was a stray, so he's very thin; he weighs about 80 pounds right now, but should weigh 100. He has a calm personality, loves the outdoors—needs a fenced yard to stretch his legs!—and is good with kids and some other dogs. He's also housebroken. Adoption fee is $175, cash only, no checks. Contact foster Angela at jsamaste@msn.com or (651) 451-7603 for more information about Buddy, or come see him from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Apple Valley Petco, along with many other Last Hope pet rescue dogs and cats. Pet of the Week: Help Murray the Cat Find a Permanent Home

Murray's original owner had to surrender him to Last Hope after losing her home.

Murray had a rough start in life; his first owner lost her home and had to surrender him to Last Hope, but at least things are getting better now. Murray is five years old and very mellow, and loves to greet people at the door, rub against thehir ankles and "chat" about his day. He's good with his litter box and comfortable around dogs and other cats (if there aren’t too many). He's healthy, neutered and declawed, up to date with shots, and would like to find a permanent home where he can get comfortable. Adoption fee is $100, cash only. Contact foster mom Judy at 952-492-2331 or jlweidt@gmail.com for more information. You can see many Last Hope rescues at the organization's weekly adoption days, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays at the …

Pet of the Week: Tornado Survivor Mr. Handsome is Looking for a New Home

Mr. Handsome, a Bassett Hound mix, is one of many dogs and cats available for adoption through Last Hope pet rescue.

Follow us on Twitter | Like us on Facebook | Sign up for our daily newsletter Mr. Handsome is a 5-year-old Basset Hound mix—though he looks almost purebred—who loves people and would make a great, easygoing family dog. Mr. Handsome is from the Joplin, MO, area, where his family lost their home in the tornado of May 2011. They then lived in a FEMA trailer, but when the trailers were taken away the family couldn't find a new home that would allow them to take Mr. Handsome with them. He really needs a stable, permanent home, as he was with his original family for his entire life. He doesn't like puppies, but is good with grown dogs and children. Adoption fee is $200, cash only. Don't Leave Sweet Amber Out in the Cold

Could you be the one for Amber, a kindly cat that consistently gets overlooked at adoption events?

Follow us on Twitter | Like us on Facebook | Sign up for our daily newsletter Amber is an adorable 15-month-old domestic short hair, brown-and-white tabby. She has a totally adorable playful personality, and is still very much a kitten who loves to play, and sleeps cuddled up with the daughter of her foster family every night. Amber is great with cats, dogs and kids, and is friendly and well socialized. Yet, she always gets overlooked at adoption events, even though she is adorable and sweet.  Amber showed up on the front porch of a volunteer's home back in March. She spent the day hanging out with the neighborhood kids and following them around since she had no where to go, and was very social and friendly with everybody. Her foster …

Adopt Eli, a Truly Colossal Cat

Eli is one of many cats and dogs available for adoption through Last Hope pet rescue.

Follow us on Twitter | Like us on Facebook | Sign up for our daily newsletter Eli is an incredibly big, handsome 1-year-old. Don't be fooled by his size—though he weighs in at 15 pounds, it's pure muscle, and he's just gorgeous. There's nothing not to love! You've got to meet Eli to appreciate just how good he looks; he has the build of a cougar, and even the same face and head shape. But he's a super sweet and affectionate lump of a cat. Eli is great with strangers. He'll walk into any home and immediately act as though he's lived there his entire life. He hangs out with the family all the time, sits in laps and will cuddle at night. He has a pleasant-sounding, happy greeting and never howls. He plays like a kitten in an oversized body. …
