UPDATE: Crystal Lake Elementary Students Could Be Relocated

Task Force recommendations limit Crystal Lake Elementary's closure affect to three neighboring elementary schools.

The Lakeville School Board and members of the public got their first glimpse Tuesday evening of the recommended elementary school boundary changes that are being proposed due to the upcoming closure of Crystal Lake Elementary School at the end of the current school year. Crystal Lake is located on the boundary between Lakeville and Burnsville and as many as 50 percent of its students are Burnsville residents. The task force recommended a plan that would essentially disperse the more than 400 Crystal Lake Elementary students to three neighboring elementary schools that include Orchard Lake, Christina Huddleston and Oak Hills. District 194 Outlines Fate of Crystal Lake Elementary School

Moving Early Childhood Family Education programs currently at the Kenwood Center would save almost $500,000 annually in lease payments.

The Lakeville School Board has sent a clear message to administrators, and the public: Crystal Lake Elementary School, which is slated to be closed at the end of this school year, will be retained for use by the district. While no formal action has yet been taken by the board, members did reach a "head nod" consensus at their March 10 meeting that their preferred route would be to follow a path that would move the district’s Early Childhood Family Education and other Community Education programs into the building. The board will also explore utilizing any additional space for other school district needs.
