Burnsville Defeats Eagan On A Frosty Night At Alimagnet

Blaze squanders early lead before battling back to win in extra innings.

A 10-9 eight-inning win over South Suburban Conference opponent Eagan kept the Burnsville baseball team in first place in the circuit standings on a frosty Monday night at Alimagnet Park. The Blaze staked starting pitcher Tyler Hanson to a 6-0 lead after two innings and led the Wildcats, 7-3 into the sixth inning before the visitors roared back to take an 8-7 lead before their seventh-inning turn at-bat was concluded. Burnsville rallied in the home half of the seventh as Bryan Vanderwoude's single drove in Andy Leiser, who had led off the frame with a booming double to the rightfield wall. Burnsville Baseball Loses Heartbreaker to Eastview

The Burnsville baseball team battled with Eastview in a back and forth game, but lost 5-4 in extra innings

The Burnsville baseball team lost its second consecutive game on Monday, falling to Eastview 5-4 in South Suburban Conference play. The loss comes four days after the Blaze (4-2) lost their first game of the season to Minnetonka on Thursday. Heading into the fifth inning tied 2-2, the game against Eastview was up for grabs by either team. Eastview took a narrow lead 3-2, but Tyler Hanson's two-run home run put Burnsville back on top 4-3. After Eastview scored a late run to tie the game, both defenses tightened up. The game headed into extra innings, and after the Blaze failed to score in the top of the eighth inning, they quickly found themselves in a hole. Burnsville Blaze Baseball: A Preview

Coming off its second-place finish in the Class AAA state tournament last year, Burnsville baseball is looking to make waves in the South Suburban Conference

The Burnsville baseball program got the experience of a lifetime to end its 2010 season. They faced Eden Prairie at the brand new Target Field for the state championship. Though they didn’t take home the trophy, the Blaze has plenty to build on for the 2011 campaign after the experience the program gained last year.  “We have a totally different team this year. This team hasn’t done anything yet,” said Mick Scholl, the team’s head coach. “We were a senior-laden team at the key positions.
