This weekend bedlam will break out at Buck Hill, which is simultaneously hosting both Winchfest and the 15th Annual Subway Bedrace for Bridging.
Winchfest at Buck Hill So, what is Winchfest, you may ask? In short, it's exactly what you might expect. In the organizers' own words: "You add the winch to snowboarding, and it allows midwest riders who lack the terrain and snow of their western counterparts to travel at high speeds on a flat landscape. Put terrain park features in front of it all, and it makes for a great competition-style snowboard event." Spectators will be allowed in free. The fest will also feature live music, beer, and food. The Buck Hill alumna and famed ski racer was released from a Vail, CO hospital, where she was admitted on Monday after complaining of "pain all over her body" and aching bones.
One of Burnsville's most famous former residents, world-renowned skier Lindsey Vonn, has been released from a Colorado hospital after being tested for "severe intestinal pain." Vonn was admitted to the hospital in Vail on Monday, NBC reports. Vonn told doctor she was had been suffering from a mysterious pain for two weeks that pervaded her body and left an aching sensation in her bones. As yet, the details of her illness remain unclear, though Vonn's publicist Lewis Kay told NBC that Vonn is "feeling much better today." "She is resting comfortably at home. Doctors are still working to determine what specifically was the cause of her illness but thankfully she has responded well to their treatment," Kay said in an e-mail. "We do not know …

A pair of public hearings highlight the agenda for Tuesday’s Burnsville City Council meeting. Scheduled as part of the council’s regular agenda are public hearings to consider resellers licenses for Gold Buyers of America and Pro Paintball. Also on the regular agenda is consideration of a Planned Unit Development amendment to allow a seasonal open air market at the Buck Hill ski area. Top area skiers compete in annual Burnsville pre-Christmas races under blue skies and on speedy slopes
World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn cut her skiing chops on Buck Hill in Burnsville as a pre-teen. And maybe, just maybe, there was another Lindsey Vonn competing or watching on the Buck Hill slopes Friday. Close to 300 skiers took their turns on the runs Friday in the 2011 Buck Hill Invitational Chuck Stone Memorial Race. Named for Charles W (Chuck) Stone, the Minneapolis founder of Buck Hill – who passed away in 1994 – the races annual draw some of the best state and regional downhill ski racers. U.S. Ski Team member Mike Ankeny won the men’s race Friday, followed by Matt Strand and Dylan Bryant. Paula Moltzan finished first in the women’s race. Dust, sweat, and zero fear seemed to be the anthem of the night at the Buck Hill Mountain Bike Races this Thursday night — one of the more adrenaline-charged events of I Love Burnsville week. The first race of the evening was the Advanced Men’s Race — a grueling circuit of four laps that ranges up and down Buck Hill and through a patch of woods nearby. Of the 75 riders who sought to tame Mount Buck, the winner was none other than 19-year-old Jack Hinkens from Eden Prairie, who roared into first with just 45:50:67 minutes on the clock. Hinkens is now going national with his racing career. He began this endeavor just four short years ago.
