Wife of Ames Construction Exec Dies at 71

Karen L. Ames died on Nov. 26, surrounded by family.

Karen L. Ames, of Burnsville, died on Nov. 26, 2012 at the age of 71.  Ames was born to Edward and Inez Melby on March 15, 1941. In life, she was known as a "beloved wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma and sister. Ames is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, John and Donald. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Raymond "Butch" Ames; her two children, Dale (Carmen) and Sonja (Troy) Savage; her eight grandchildren, Ashley, Nick, Jesse and Brooke Ames and Mason, Maddie, Mariah and Matt Savage; her one great-grandchild, Gabriel Ames; her sister Karol (Bob) Paulus; sister-in-law, Sandy Melby; many nieces and nephews, and other family members and friends. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012…

Construction Company Closes in on $187.5 Million Deal

Ames Construction, a Burnsville company, is hoping to seal the deal on a bid for the new Interstate 90 bridge in Winona County.

Ames Construction is close to landing a lucrative deal with the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The Burnsville-based company was the lowest bidder for building a new Interstate 90 bridge across the Mississippi River at Dresbach, a Minnesota town on the shore opposite of La Crosse, WI. The bid package also includes work on two highway interchanges and a rest area.  In its call for bids, MnDOT estimated that the project would cost $175 million to $225 million. Ames put forward a proposal for $187.5 million. The company beat out three other bids, ranging from $207.4 million to $229.4 million.
