The former member of the Burnsville City Council who passed away in 2011 will be honored with a plaque at the Alimagnet Dog Park.

Known for his love of dogs – and balanced budgets–former Burnsville City Council member Charlie Crichton will be honored with the unveiling of a plaque at Burnsville’s Alimagnet Dog Park on June 5. The memorial dedication is planned for 5:30 p.m. at the park, located at 1200 Alimagnet Parkway. The ceremony will coincide with the City’s “I Love Burnsville Week” festivities, and will include remarks from Burnsville Mayor Elizabeth Kautz. Crichton, who was 84 years old, died on March 13, 2011, shortly after being reelected to a sixth term on the Burnsville City Council. This past winter, the Minnesota Zoo became the third in the U.S. to exhibit Asian wild dogs, called dholes. Now the zoo is one of just a handful of places home to the birth of a litter of pups of the endangered animal. Two litters of dholes (pronounced "dohlz") were born at the zoo in mid-April, according to a press release—two of 11 births ever recorded in the United States. Zoo keepers estimate there are four pups, but aren't completely sure because of their behavior; two females also are sharing the mother role for the pups, the release says. The pups are expected to be out of the den more in coming weeks, and are best seen from the gazebo at the exhibit. The dhole is found in China, India, Russia and Thailand; about 2,500 are left in …

Editor’s Note: This is a press release from the City of Burnsville. The City of Burnsville will be providing a site for disposal of homeowners’ trees that were impacted by the May 19 storm. Beginning May 21, residents may drop-off storm debris at the city's compost site, which is directly behind Dodge of Burnsville on Pleasant Avenue. Residents should not put the material in plastic bags to dispose of it at the compost site. If tree debris has been placed in plastic bags for hauling purposes, residents are asked to open bags and empty them at the compost site. A nationwide arrest warrant was issued May 11 for Shawn LaJuan Primus, charged with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
A Brooklyn Center man accused of repeatedly forcing a young Burnsville girl to perform oral sex was arrested Sunday in Hastings. Shawn LaJuan Primus, 38, is charged with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, each of which carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $40,000 fine. A nationwide arrest warrant was issued for him on May 11. According to the criminal complaint, Burnsville police were called a home on May 9 on a report of criminal sexual conduct involving a young girl. The child, who turned 10 in March, told authorities that Primus frequently woke her up in the middle of the night, performed oral sex on her and forced her to perform oral sex on him. The increase brings lunch prices for 2012-13 to $2.20 for elementary, $2.35 for high school and $3.40 for adults. Middle school pricing will stay at $2.25.
