Halloween Happenings in the South Metro

Frightmares opens this weekend, but there's plenty of competition this year: Three other horror-filled Halloween attractions have spring up in the south metro.

Frightmares at Buck Hill in Burnsville: The granddaddy of all metro Halloween attractions opens this Friday. Take a grisly a tour through the four attractions, the Haunted Hollow, the Fright Factory, the Orchard Manor Dead and Breakfast, and Under Bellharm, a new take on the Bellharm Asylum attraction which did literally burn to the ground last season.

For countless generations it has crouched, a brooding malevolence, dominating the landscape. Those who have tried to build on its land have died or gone mad. Its soil is untilled. The twisting paths through its hollows are rarely tread and, then, only by the foolhardy, or desperate. The remnants of man’s attempt to tame this haunted place are few, but a forbidding reminder of what lies just out of sight, in the shadows.

Frightmares also boasts music and a full-service bar and restaurant. Open on Fridays and Saturdays through October, as well as Oct. 17, 20, 24 and 27. Tickets can be purchased for $20 Thursday through Saturday, $18 on Sunday.

Trail of Terror in Shakopee: The Trail boasts a haunted woods walk, maze, scary attractions, a zombie paintball safari, and zombie pub crawl. Open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through October, with additional dates on Oct. 17 and 24. Tickets are $16.95 in advance, and $19.95 at the gate. The Trail is located at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival grounds, 3525 W. 145th Street in Shakopee

Valleyscare in Shakopee: During October, the theme park transforms into a forbidding series of mazes and scare zones at night.
