Three Ways to 'Give to the Max'

In the lead up to the holidays, Burnsville residents will be able give to the needy online, via a free charity concert or send it to Burnsville High.

1. Only 12 hours left to contribute to 'Give to the Max Day.' For the past two years, giveMN.org has given Minnesota residents the chance to easily donate online to their favorite nonprofit groups. But each year, the stakes are raised on a single day for organizations to solicit donations.

During a 24-hour period known as Give to the Max Day, which this year starts 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, there are added bonuses for organizations that bring in donations (via credit card or debit card on the giveMN.org site only).

This year, giveMN.org has $4,299,779 in match funds for participating groups—including many based in Burnsville—that meet certain goals for donations and money raised on Wednesday.

Prizes of $15,000, $10,000 and $7,500 will be given to the organizations that bring in the most money on Wednesday, respectively.

GiveMN will also hand out $1,000 every hour to a random group.

2. The Garage, , and Burnsville Common Place will be hosting a food drive and concert by Kosha Dillz, an internationally-known rapper who is currently on a charitable excursion through the region — the “You Canned Do It” Midwest Tour and Food Drive.

Fans are encouraged to bring canned goods and food items to the concert — which will take place at The Garage on Thursday. Dillz will drop off the donations to the 360 Communities Food Shelf on Thanksgiving, where he will volunteer his time distributing food for the holiday in partnership with www.Burnsville.OurCommonPlace.com

The show is free. It begins at 3 p.m. and runs through 6 p.m. For more information, call 952-895-4664.

3. This week, Burnsville High School is holding a Youth Service Food Drive. Monday was the first day of the drive, which is spearheaded by BHS' social studies department. Social Studies teachers will be collecting nonperishable food for both BrainPower in a BackPack and 360 Communities.

BHS is looking for both personal hygiene products and food items like soup, cereal, juice, veggies, fruit, pasta, rice, and protein.
