Why Go: Mixed Blood Theatre celebrates Black History Month with the music of Lena Horne, Aretha Franklin, Queen Latifah, during an "exuberant, music-driven celebration of African American women's triumphs and accomplishments."

When/Where: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sunday, Monday; Minnesota Zoo

Why Go: Beat the winter chill at the Minnesota Zoo's tropical beach party, located where else but on the Tropics Trail. Kids can play in the sand, get their faces painted and more throughout Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Cost: Zoo admission

3. Waggin' Tales

When/Where: 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Burnhaven Library

Why Go: Bring the little ones to the library to read to certified therapy dogs. 

Cost: Free

4. Blazettes Dance Team State Performances

When/Where: noon to 7:15 p.m. Friday, noon to 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Target Center

Why Go: Watch the Burnsville High Blazette Dance Team compete at state, either at the Target Center or in the comfort of your own home at Prep45.com.

Cost: $14 for adults, $9 students; free webcast

5. Jump On It 2012 

When/Where: noon to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday through Monday.

Why Go: Take a flying leap during this cross country airbag tour. Ages 12 and up are invited to this event.

Cost: $25 for 15 attempts, $10 for 5, $5 for 2.
