Both Burnsville soccer teams open their sectional tournament brackets at home on Tuesday night, with the Blaze boys, seeded third in Section 3AA, playing No. 6 Park at 5 p.m. and the girls, seeded first in Section 2AA, taking on No. 8 Bloomington Kennedy at 7 p.m.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Eduardo Perez and Jesse Beane each scored goals for the Blaze in a regular-season concluding 2-1 defeat of Apple Valley in the regular-season finale, while Luis Garcia and Mauricio Mendoza had assists in the defeat of the two-time defending Class AA state champs.
Alyssa Blahnik topped the Burnsville girls with 24 regular-season goals, while goalkeepers Darby Lofthus and Meghann Rudolph logging five and three shutouts, respectively.
WHO WILL WIN:
Both Burnsville squads should win on their home turf, but there’s a reason they play the games.
The Wolfpack will likely challenge the Blaze boys as they likely play their final home game of the season, win or lose. Burnsville and Park had common opponents in Apple Valley and Eagan. While the Blaze topped the Eagles and lost 1-0 to the Wildcats, the Wolfpack lost 1-0 to Apple Valley and 4-2 to Eagan.
Burnsville’s girls blanked Kennedy 10-0 in a regular-season meeting. No reason to anticipate anything different this time.
