Council Member Announces Return of 'Heart of the City' Race

Council Member Dan Kealey told city colleagues that the race is back after a hiatus.

Efforts are afoot to revive what used to be known as the "Heart of the City Half-Marathon" — one of the key events of "I Love Burnsville" week.

The race was cancelled in 2011 after key sponsors pulled out and high water closed the route along Black Dog Road. On Tuesday, however, Council Member Dan Kealey said his employer, Pawn America, was interested in bringing the race back to benefit a program called Kids Feeding Kids. Kealey said that this time, the race would likely be a 10K — rather than a 13-mile run. The race will also take place in late summer, during the Burnsville Fire Muster. According to Kealey, the Fire Muster Board has already given the event their blessing.

As of now, the race is set for Sept. 9.
