Burnsville Legion Looks To Advance In Gopher Classic

Cobras beat Anoka 12-9, face Rapid City and Chippewa Falls on Sunday to finish pool play.

The Burnsville American Legion baseball team remains unbeaten heading into Sunday at the Gopher Classic tournament. The Cobras are 3-0, making the team a contender for the pool championship.

On Saturday, the Cobras defeated Anoka 12-9 on Saturday in a slugfest at Chanhassen High School.

Down 7-5 heading into the top of the sixth inning, the Cobras got two men on base and Tyler Hanson's three-run home run put Burnsville back on top. Not to be outdone, Matt Stemper hit a single home run in the next at-bat and Burnsville put up six runs in the inning.

Holding Anoka to two runs in the bottom of the inning, Burnsville added an insurance run in the top of the seventh and finished the game with a 1-2-3 inning. 

Burnsville then beat Chanhassen 11-0 in six innings.

Sunday is the final day of pool play. Currently, Chippewa Falls is 2-1 in pool play, while Chanhassen is 2-2, St. Louis Park is 0-3 and Anoka is 0-4.

Burnsville and Rapid City, SD, are tied with 3-0 records, and each will be competing on Sunday with the pool championship on the line. The winner of the pool will officially advance to Monday’s round of 16.

The Cobras will face Rapid City at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, then will play Chippewa Falls at 2 p.m. Rapid City will also play Chippewa Falls on Sunday.
