Burnsville Legion Advances In Gopher Classic

The Cobras must win twice on Monday to advance to Tuesday's semifinal round in Minnetonka

The Burnsville American Legion baseball team stormed through its pool play at Chanhassen High School over the weekend, securing a spot in the Gopher Classic’s round of 16 with a 5-0 record.

Burnsville won the Chanhassen pool and will play Hamlin Purple at 9:30 a.m. on Monday at Round Lake Stadium in Eden Prairie. If the Cobras win, they will play at 2:30 p.m. against either Fergus Falls or Eden Prairie with the winner advancing to the semifinals on Tuesday.

Burnsville’s semifinal will be played at 9 a.m. at Veterans Field in Minnetonka, and the championship game will be at 2:30 p.m.

Burnsville secured its perfect pool play record by winning a pair of games on Sunday. The Cobras defeated Rapid City 6-1, then topped Chippewa Falls, WI, 12-2 in their final game.

On Friday, Burnsville beat Rapid City, SD, 8-0 and St. Louis Park 13-0. On Saturday, the Cobras won 12-9 over Anoka and 11-0 over Chanhassen.

Rapid City took second place in the pool with a 4-1 record. First place was on the line when Rapid City and Burnsville met on Sunday with both teams holding 4-0 record. Rapid City advanced to the round of 16 and will face Champlin Park at noon on Monday at Veterans Field in Minnetonka.
