Burnsville Girls Soccer To Play For State Title
The Blaze defeated Centennial 5-2, will face Wayzata in the finals
The Burnsville girls soccer team stormed past Centennial on Monday in the Class AA semifinals, defeating the Cougars 5-2 at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.
The Blaze advanced to face Wayzata in the state championship match on Thursday. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
Burnsville (17-4-0) used five goals on Monday to advance. Blaze sophomore Alyssa Blahnik scored the team’s first two goals to give Burnsville a 2-0 lead. After Centennnial’s Megan Lenz scored to cut the lead to 2-1, Blahnik assisted on Tiana Khamvongsa’s goal to give Burnsville a 3-1 first half lead. Blahnik then scored her third goal at the 37:05 mark to make it 4-1 before halftime.

Abby Soderholm scored at the 40:30 mark to give Burnsville a 5-1 lead, and despite a late goal by Centennial, the Blaze had mounted too large a lead for the Cougars to overcome.
The Blaze outshot Centennial 21-8 in the game. The win gave Burnsville wins against second-seeded Woodbury in the quarterfinals and third-seeded Centennial in the semifinals during the state tournament. The Cougars defeated Burnsville 5-3 on Aug. 25.
