Burnsville Defeats Eagan On A Frosty Night At Alimagnet

Blaze squanders early lead before battling back to win in extra innings.

A 10-9 eight-inning win over South Suburban Conference opponent Eagan kept the Burnsville baseball team in first place in the circuit standings on a frosty Monday night at Alimagnet Park.

The Blaze staked starting pitcher Tyler Hanson to a 6-0 lead after two innings and led the Wildcats, 7-3 into the sixth inning before the visitors roared back to take an 8-7 lead before their seventh-inning turn at-bat was concluded.

Burnsville rallied in the home half of the seventh as Bryan Vanderwoude's single drove in Andy Leiser, who had led off the frame with a booming double to the rightfield wall.

However, the Blaze left the winning run at third base to send the game into the eighth inning.

Eagan again took the lead in its first extra-inning at-bat and held a 9-8 advantage into the bottom of the eighth, before a pair of Eagan fielding miscues led to Justin Threkeld—who had hit a solo home run earlier in the game—reaching on a dropped fly ball and scoring on another to tie the game at 9-9 before another Vanderwoude single plated Derek Johnson with the game winning run to touch off a jubilant Blaze celebration.

Adam Lambrecht, Burnsville's second relief pitcher of the night, earned the victory after pitching the eighth inning.

The victory improved the Blaze to 9-2 overall and 8-1 in conference play as Burnsville now prepares to host Lakeville North at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday.
