Burnsville Cobras Open Up Season 6-0, Win Snake Pit Tournament

The Cobras' next game is Wednesday at home against Eagan

The Burnsville American Legion baseball team rallied off six wins in its first six games of the summer season, including five victories to win the Burnsville Snake Pit Tournament on Saturday through Monday.

The Cobras won the championship with a 5-2 win over Eden Prairie in the title game on Monday. To get there, Burnsville beat Oakdale 4-3 on Friday before defeating Seward, NE, 10-0 and Excelsior 4-3 on Saturday. 

Burnsville beat Prior Lake 9-1 in the semifinals on Sunday, which set the matchup with Eden Prairie for the championship.

Against Eden Prairie, Burnsville (6-0) got a kickstart offensively from Quinn Johnson, who finished the day 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs. Matt Stemper went 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI in the game, and he also had a run and a stolen base.

Riley McAdaragh pitched a complete-game gem against Prior Lake in the semifinals, tossing five innings and allowing one run on six hits while striking out five. Against Excelsior on Saturday, Brian Vanderwoude allowed two runs on three hits in six innings of work to secure the 4-3 win. Bo Hellquist went 1-for-3 with two RBIs at the plate against Prior Lake.

Against Seward, Burnsville’s Andy Lieser led the way at the plate. He finished 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored in the game. Stemper also had a big game, belting a home run and driving home three RBIs in a 1-for-3 day at the plate.

Burnsville’s next matchup is a doubleheader against Eagan at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at Alimagnet Park.
