Blaze Lose Football Opener
Burnsville started the 2011 football season with a tough 20 - 18 defeat.
The Burnsville football team opened up the season with a 20-18 loss to
Bloomington Jefferson at Pates Stadium in Burnsville.
The Blaze led 6-0 in a defensive struggle in the first half, but in the
third quarter the Jaguars found their offense. Jefferson out-scored
Burnsville 13-6 in the third to take a 13-12 lead, then notched the
game-deciding touchdown in the fourth quarter to steal the win.
It is the second consecutive year the Blaze faced Jefferson in the
season-opening game. Burnsville beat the Jaguars 35-20 a year ago.
The Blaze (0-1, 0-1 South Suburban Conference) continue South Suburban
Conference play next week as they travel to Rosemount for a 7 p.m. Friday
showdown with the Irish. Rosemount (1-0) defeated Bloomington Kennedy 28-6
on Thursday to open up the season.
