Water Pipes Burst in 2 District 191 Buildings

Several areas in the Diamondhead Education Center are affected and some community education programs are canceled for the rest of the week.

The cold weather claimed water pipes in two buildings in the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District

A pipe burst at the Diamondhead Education Center in Burnsville at 4 a.m. Tuesday morning. The break resulted "in a substantial amount of water spreading on the main level of the west side of the building and leaking through the ceiling to the lower level," according to a news release from District 191.

Several areas were affected and included:

  • the dance studio,
  • a meeting room,
  • offices on the main level, and
  • four classrooms in the Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) portion of the building.

Although ECSE will remain open, some students will take classes in a new location.

The community education's Adult Basic Education (ABE) classrooms, the Burnsville Senior Center and other offices were also affected. All ABE classes and community education adult enrichment classes are canceled this week, according to the release.

The district may have to replace carpet and drywall in some areas as part of clean-up.

On Sunday night, a pipe burst at Eagle Ridge Junior High in Savage. Water then flowed into a school gym. The school will move physical education classes to other areas in the school until the gym can be used again.
