New Principals Ready to Start at Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District

The school board approved three principals for elementary schools in Burnsville, Savage and Eagan.

The Board of Education for the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District approved three new principals Monday morning, the district announced.

From the school district:

"I am pleased to welcome three outstanding educational leaders to our administrative team," said Superintendent Joe Gothard. "They each bring skills and experiences that will be a good match for the schools they will be leading, and they are focused on success for all students." 

On July 29, Barbara Borer will become principal of Rahn Elementary in Eagan while Shannon McParland will be principal at Sioux Trail Elementary in Burnsville. Erika Nesvig, currently a teacher at Harriet Bishop Elementary in Savage, will begin July 23 as the interim principal of the school.

Borer has been an elementary principal in Wisconsin Rapids. Previously, she was a lead teacher with Northeast Metro 916/Valley Crossing for 10 years. She also taught in the St. Paul and Osseo public school districts and for a parochial school. She was a consultant for Origins on Responsive Classroom training.

McParland has been an assistant principal at an elementary school in the Minneapolis Public School District for the past two years. Previously, she was a coordinator and teacher for St. Paul Public Schools and taught at a parochial school. She was a professional development specialist with the Minnesota Department of Education and an adjunct professor for St. Catherine University.

Erika Nesvig has been a part of the Harriet Bishop school community since 2000. She has taught at several grade levels and also served as an interventionist and resource teacher. She began her educational career by teaching English in France. Then, she taught in Seattle, Wash., area schools. Currently, she is coordinating the summer school program at Sky Oaks Elementary. 

Borer and McParland replace Elaine Mehdizadeh and Taber Akin, respectively, who are now principals in other school districts. Nesvig replaces Rob Nelson, who is working in the private sector.
