Hopes High for Blazettes at State

The Burnsville Blazettes are hoping to recapture some of their past glory at the state dance team competition Friday and Saturday.

The team came close in 2012, but failed to place in spite of a strong start. Ultimately, Apple Valley's Eastview took first in AAA High Kick and Wayzata placed first in AAA Jazz. 

Eastview has taken the kick title two years in a row.

The 17th Minnesota State High School League tournament for dance teams includes squads from 49 schools. The tournament is at Target Center in Minneapolis. Teams will vie foe the Jazz title on Friday, Feb. 15. The High Kick competition is set for Saturday, Feb. 16.

In addition to team titles, judges will select 12 dancers to fill out an all-tournament team. The awards will be presented during the championship award ceremonies.

Friday, Feb. 15: Jazz

• 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Class A Qualifying Competition 
• 1:15 p.m. Class A Finalists Announced 
• 2:00-4:15 p.m. Class AA and Class AAA Qualifying Competition  
• 4:30 p.m. Class AA Finalists Announced  
• 4:45 p.m. Class AAA Finalists Announced  
• 5:30 p.m. Class A Finals and Awards Presentations  
• 7:15 p.m. Class AA and Class AAA Finals and Awards Presentations

Saturday, Feb. 16: High Kick  

• 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Class A Qualifying Competition  
• 1:15 p.m. Class A Finalists Announced

Ticket Prices: Single Session: Adult - $14, Student - $9. Tickets for the 2013 State Girls’ Dance Team Tournament will be available at the Target Center box office beginning at 10 a.m. each day.
