Girls Swim Team Falls Short to Eagan

This was not really great reporting here. Even if Burnsville did have diving it wouldn't have won this dual. The last two events, the 100 breaststroke and 400 free relay, were won by Eagan. However, all the points were awarded to Burnsville. Most duals go that way if a team can't mathematically win in the final events. The losing team is usually given the points. Burnsville got first second and third place points in the 100 breast (13 total), while Eagan got zero. Burnsville got first and second points in the 400 relay (12) and Eagan got zero.
If the dual was scored all the way through, the final score would have been Eagan 114 and Burnsville 82. So even if Burnsville got all 16 points in diving finishing one through five, it still would have lost the dual taking all 13 diving points away from Eagan. It would have been 101-98. And how about telling us who won the events? Burnsville's Anna Elling and Angela Le both won twice

Hi Tim,
I agree that it is incomplete. Jackson is a photographer only, and an excellent one at that. We did not have the budget for a full story on the event itself, but if our readers have a strong interest in swimming we can change that. Are you a coach or parent?

I'm sorry about the reporting on this. I had no idea that team scoring was done this way at swimming meets and I didn't get a chance to see the final results of all the events before I left. Thank for letting me know about this. Jackson
