Jury Trial Begins For Burnsville Man Charged With Seven Sex-Related Felonies

Peter Robert Stibal II, 46, is facing seven counts of first- and second-degree criminal sexual conduct

The jury trial of Burnsville resident Peter Robert Stibal II, 46, began Monday at the Dakota County Courthouse after jury selection finished last Friday.

 According to the criminal complaint against Stibal, he is charged with two felony counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and five felony counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Stibal, a former Scoutmaster of Burnsville's Boy Scout Troop #650, is accused of sexually assaulting at least four Boy Scouts between 2002 and 2008.

At the time of his 2009 arrest, Stibal also admitted to several counts of possessing child pornography on his computer but according to the most recent criminal complaint, no charges have been filed against him.

Dakota County attorney James Backstrom said on Monday additional charges and trials are pending.

The combined charges against Stibal carry with them a maximum penalty of $255,000 and 185 years in prison.

Dakota County Chief Judge Edward Lynch is scheduled to preside over Stibal's trial.
