THIS WEEK: Winter Lighting Ceremony, Dany Heatley and Turkey Day Closings

Monday

• Sophomore Parent Night at Burnsville High School: The Guidance Office will host an informational meeting for parents of sophomore students to discuss long-term career planning for their children and the results of the PLAN test. • Dany Heatley Signing: The Minnesota Wild player will make an appearance at the Hockey Lodge Store at Burnsville Center. The event runs from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. 

• Burnsville City Council Meeting: At this week's meeting, the council has a relatively short agenda. Tuesday night, they will formally adopt a legislative agenda for the upcoming year, consider bids for a fire truck, and consider revising city retirement plans, among other things.

Wednesday

• Winter Lighting Ceremony: The city will host its annual Lighting Ceremony in Nicollet Commons Park. 

The event will feature treats from Jo Jo's Rise & Wine, Cub Foods and Chianti Grill, as well as musical performances by the FreeStyle choir from Burnsville High School and the Sioux Trail Elementary School Choir. 

The ceremony is free. It begins at 6:00 p.m. and  ends at 6:45. Parking is available at the Park and Ride Ramp located on Pillsbury Avenue and the Heart of the City Ramp located on Travelers Trail. 

• Scott Benedict Memorial Thanksgiving Classic: Wednesday will also mark the first day of the Burnsville Hockey Club's annual tournament. The tournament kicks off at 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday. No games are scheduled for Nov. 24. The tournament continues on Nov. 25, Nov. 26, and Nov. 27. For more information, e-mail the club at Tournaments@blazehockey.com.

• The Garage is closed. The teen center will reopen for normal programming on Monday, Nov. 28.

Thursday

• The Garage is closed.

• Burnsville Senior Center is closed.

• All area schools are closed.

• Burnsville Performing Arts Center is closed. 

• City offices closed.

• Burnhaven Library will be closed. The library will reopen at 10 a.m. on Friday.

Friday

Black Friday: Shops at Burnsville Center open early, from midnight to 5 a.m.

• The Garage is closed.

• Burnsville Senior Center is closed.

• All area schools are closed.

• Burnsville Performing Arts Center is closed. 

• City offices closed.
