Taxpayers: Weigh In On the City's Media Contract

The city is hosting a number of focus groups starting Feb. 26 to gather taxpayer input and discuss the future of local TV, internet access and all things media-related.

Whether you like, love or loathe our local access TV stations, the city wants to hear from you.

Currentlu, the city has a contract with Comcast Cable. This franchise agreement allows the company to operate six cable television channels (all used for public, education and government programming) and internet systems in the City. The agreement generates about $960,000 in in annual revenue for the city. However, that 15-year contract is quickly coming to a close: It expires in January 2015, thus offering residents a chance to influence the next long-term contract.  

For the next 12 months, the City will be surveying the public about what they would like to see from the city's cable provider, and whattelevision and technological advancements would be helpful to residents, community organizations and businesses over the next 10 to 15 years.
