South Metro Roundup: 3rd McDonald's Coming to Lakeville, Drive-By Shooting in Apple Valley

Lakeville 

Lakeville will be getting its third McDonald's restaurant, but it could lose popular restaurant Dino's Gyros in the process. The Lakeville City Council approved plans to demolish the building sitting at 179th Street West and Cedar Avenue that Dino's calls home, so McDonald's can construct a new restaurant in its place.

Rosemount

The tables are ready, the bar is stocked, and soon Giuseppe's Pasta Alforno owner and chef Alex Awada will be able to fire up the kitchen and cook up Italian dishes. The Rosemount City Council approved the establishment's liquor license on Tuesday night.

The Guitar Shop, a new specialty guitar store that features retail, repair and instruction, opened Friday in downtown Rosemount. Rosemount Patch will have a full story on Monday.

Eagan

Eagan Mayor and District 51 Senate seat candidate Mike Maguire last week formally asked the DFL party to vacate its endorsement of fellow candidate Jim Carlson for the seat, alleging vote-counting errors at the endorsing convention contributed to his defeat. Maguire ran against Carlson, a former state senator, earlier this year in a hotly contested campaign for the DFL endorsement.

A $4.3 million car club is slated to break ground along Hwy. 3 in Eagan this spring. But the six-acre club should be more than just a storage facility for classic automobiles; club members will purchase a unit with many amenities and that can be customized. A clubhouse would be available for events.

Apple Valley

Alpha Omega Wagar, 21, is charged in Dakota County with conducting a drive-by shooting after he allegedly fired four shots through his ex-girlfriend's bedroom window with a BB gun following a "contentious" breakup.
