THIS WEEK: Snow Week, 'Princess Bride' and a 'Masquerade'
A roundup of events in the week ahead.
Monday
• Snow Week: Burnsville High School's winter celebration officially started on Jan. 28. It continues with events throughout this week, kicking into high gear with a Pep Fest and a Volleyball Tournament on Monday. The volleyball game will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the gym on BHS' main campus.
• Princess Bride: The Burnhaven Library will show the 1980s classic for free this Monday. The show starts at 6:00 p.m. and runs about two hours. The film is rated PG.

• Kindergarten Info Night at Marion W. Savage Elementary School: Learn more about the kindergarten program at M.W. Savage. Event begins at 6 p.m.
• BHS Career Fair: The 18th annual career fair at BHS will bring over 100 local professionals to talk shop with students. The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. in the cafeteria of Burnsville High School, 600 E. Highway 13. It is free and open to the public.

Tuesday
• Renae Gustafson Scholarship Basketball Game: This Tuesday, Metcalf Junior High School will honor a late teacher Renae Gustafson, who perished in a car accident, with a special public event that will also raise funds for scholarships. Metcalf staff will face off against their students at 3 p.m. Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults. They can be purchased at the game.

• Kindergarten Info Night at Hidden Valley Elementary School: Learn more about the kindergarten program at Hidden Valley. Event begins at 6 p.m.
• AVID Info Session at BHS: Students who will be 10th graders next year are invited along with their parents to an information session regarding AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) — a college readiness program previously only available at Nicollet Junior High. The program is expanding into high school this year. The session begins at 6 p.m. at Burnsville High School, 600 E. Highway 13, in room C-180. Wednesday
• Two hour late start at all schools in ISD 191.
• Snow Week: Boot Hockey at Neil Park, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Thursday
• The Elements: As a celebration of its first year as Rahn Elementary Magnet School for Art and Technology, the elementary is going to present a music and dance performance at BHS' Mraz Center. The show starts at 7 p.m. Prior to the show, the public is invited to an art show and silent auction in the corridor outside the Mraz.
• AARP Tax Aide: Burnhaven Library will host a help session for seniors looking for help with their taxes this season. The event is free and begins at 10 a.m. It runs until 2 p.m.
Friday
• Masquerade Dance Competition: Come to the Burnsville Performing Arts Center and watch dancers from all over the Midwest compete for cash, prizes and a chance to go to the national Masquerade contest. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. The show begins at 5 and ends at 8.
