"Two years ago when I ran for office, the Minnesota Legislature was facing a more than $6 billion budget hole. Minnesota voters changed who controlled the House and Senate, and elected a CPA from Eagan to the Senate,” Daley said. “We now have a $1.3 billion surplus, and many of our policies, including streamlining bureaucratic permits for business, are already creating new jobs in our state.”

During the 2011-12 legislative session, Daley served on the K-12 Education and Jobs & Economic Growth standing committees, and as Vice-Chairman of State Government Innovation & Veterans committee. He was also a member of the joint legislative Pensions Commission and the Sunset Commission, a legislative oversight board seeking to streamline state government.

Daley said that although many of his efforts were geared towards veterans’ job creation or government spending reform, two things that mirror his personal background as an Army veteran and CPA/fraud examiner, he felt his biggest personal accomplishments were in the Education committee.

“I’m most personally proud that I could lead a bi-partisan effort—which was initially vetoed—and rework a bill with the education commissioner and Governor Dayton and bring to success a bill that requires teachers pass basic skills before getting a license to teach kids in the classroom,” he said. “We have passed several bills like this that have shown the attitude of lawmakers to put Minnesota’s priorities—quality learning, job creation, smarter government— first.”

Daley lives in Eagan with his wife Dawn and four children.

Daley was elected to a two-year term in 2010. Following redistricting, which adds several Burnsville precincts and changes the district number from 38 to 51, the term will be four years.
