Ramp, Lane Closures Scheduled for Highway 13 Near I-35W

Beginning May 3, the area will be subject to delays as construction crews begin an overhaul of the interchange between County Road 5 and Highway 13.

Drivers beware. Access to Interstate 35W from Highway 13 could be very limited in the weeks to come. 

This week, Dakota County kicks off a major construction project at County Road 5 and Highway 13, which will completely reconfigure the interchange there before next fall. In addition, Burnsville firefighters and emergency workers will be using vacant buildings in the area for drills.

Trunk Highway 13

Starting Tuesday, May 7, the left lanes of southbound and northbound Highway 13 between County Road 5 and the southbound ramps to I-35W will be closed, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The double left turn lane on westbound Highway 13 at County Road 5 will also be reduced to a single left turn lane.

County Road 5, south of Highway 13

County Road 5 is scheduled to be completely closed from Williams Drive/Greenwood Drive to approximately 250 feet south of Highway 13. Drivers are advised to follow the posted detour. The stretch of County Road 5 just south of the Williams Drive/Greenwood Drive will be partially open, but reduced to a single lane in each direction and shifted to the west half of the roadway.

These closures will remain in effect until late May.

This intersection is scheduled to be changed to a four-way stop signs. Expect delays.

Williams Drive

The north half of Williams Drive is scheduled to be closed to traffic. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction, then shifted to the south half of the roadway.

During the week of May 13, the closures on Williams Drive will take place in reverse: The south half will be closed and drivers will use the north half instead.

The signal system at this intersection has been disabled and is now a four-way stop. Expect delays.
