Planning Commission Reorganizes, Bids Farewell

Ramraj Singh was elected chairman and two new members are sworn in.

Ramraj Singh was elected chairman and Steve Manhart vice chairman of the Burnsville Planning Commission during its reorganization meeting June 13.

With the departure of longtime Commissioners DeeDee Currier and Vicky Turner, the commission also welcomed two new members — David Cherner as a regular member and John Corey as an alternate. The two were appointed to three-year terms last week by the Burnsville City Council. They were sworn in on Tuesday.

Cherner has been a Burnsville resident for 16 years and is employed by State Farm Mutual Insurance Company as legal counsel. In his application, he wrote about his interest in local government and that serving on a commission “is a good way for me to get started with my involvement in local government.”

Corey has been a Heart of the City resident for two years. He is corporate counsel and director of state government affairs for ACA International. He applied for the commission position to help support the “city’s growth and economic development. I think it is critical that citizens engage in civic discourse, and I want to play my part,” He wrote in his application.

Patrick Julik moved from the alternate position to a regular member. Chris Teiken rounds out the five-member commission that is charged with making recommendations to the city council on land use and development issues.
