Minneapolis Mayor Rybak Speaks at the Charlotte DNC on Tuesday

R.T. Rybak's Sept. 4, 2012, address is the first by a sitting mayor of Minneapolis at a Democratic National Convention since Hubert Humphrey in 1948.

Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak is scheduled to speak on Tuesday, Sept. 4, alongside a number of Democratic Party heavyweights at the 2012 Democratic National Convention Tuesday.

Rybak tweeted Tuesday his remarks would come between 6:35–7:10 p.m. Central, while the posted DNC schedule has him starting off the 7 p.m. hour.  That means there is a chance of at least some of his speech being carried live on national news broadcasts, most of which start at 7 p.m. Central.

Rybak—an early backer of Barack Obama's 2008 presidential candidacy and one of several mayors with speaking at the DNC— has big historical shoes to fill. The last sitting Minneapolis mayor to deliver an address at a Democratic National Convention was Hubert Humphrey in 1948. Hear Humphrey by clicking on the YouTube thumbnail.
