DFL Candidate Compares Michele Bachmann to Joe McCarthy, Architect of Red Witchhunt

Former state legislator Mike Obermueller, who is campaigning to unseat Republican U.S. Rep. John Kline in the 2nd District, accused Bachmann of "political dramatics."

Candidate for Congress released the following statement regarding U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann’s accusations that members of the Muslim Brotherhood have infiltrated the U.S. government, in which she names prominent Muslims in the Democratic Party as operatives:

“Michele Bachmann’s baseless personal attacks on Huma Abedin and are exactly the kind of nonsense that people hate about Washington—too much time spent on political dramatics and not nearly enough time getting things done,” said Obermueller, who is running for in the 2nd Congressional District. “Today I stand with the chorus of Democratic and Republican voices that have called these McCarthy-like comments ‘dangerous’ and ‘damaging to our country.’ Washington needs leaders who focus on strengthening the middle class—not ones that engage in these damaging types of political games."

Earlier this week Bachmann accused State Department aide Huma Abedin, Ellison and others of loyalties to the Muslim Brotherhood. Elected officials who have condemned Bachmann’s comments include Speaker John Boehner, former Presidential hopeful and Senator John McCain, and Senator Lindsey Graham, along with former Bachmann campaign manager Ed Rollins.

Obermueller is a former state legislator running against U.S. Rep. John Kline, a Republican. So far Kline has refused to comment on the matter.
