This Week: Apartment Trouble, Ghost Hunters Among Us and Sauerkraut

Tuesday

• Burnsville City Council meeting

This week, the council will consider suspension of rental license for Country Village Apartments, which has been cited six times in the last 90 days for code violations.

The council will also consider an amendment to city ordinance to update the floodplain boundaries along the Minnesota River and a liquor license for a new bar, Ernie’s Pub & Grill, among other things. 

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall on 100 Civic Center Parkway. It is also possible to watch it live online.

• Voter Registration: Time is running out to pre-register as a voter for the upcoming election on Nov. 8. In Burnsville, there are no candidates on the ballot but the Independent School District 191 is asking for a levy extension in a referendum this election. The deadline is tomorrow, Oct. 18, after which voters must register on Election Day.

Registration forms are available online or at the school district office. For more information, go to the Dakota County Elections or call 651-438-4305 if you have any questions about registering to vote.

• Paranormal Activity Revealed: On Tuesday, the Hastings Paranormal Team will discuss their most interesting findings in Dakota County at Burnhaven Library. The event is free. It runs from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Wednesday

• Break for Independent School District 191: This will be a low-key week for Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District. The district is on break starting Wednesday, Oct. 19, to Oct. 21. School will resume on Monday. There are no meetings of the Board of Education.

Thursday

• Oktoberfest Police Fundraiser

Thursday, the Burnsville Police Deparment will be serving up a Bavarian feast for the Burnsville public: brats, sauerkraut, purple cabbage, German potato salad and dessert. The meal costs $5 for adults and $2 for children. The proceeds will go towards new uniforms for the Burnsville Police Department’s Honor Guard. The lunch runs from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Arbors at Ridges Assisted Living Campus.

Next Week

Parents who wish to sign their kids up for free and reduced lunch must act fast. The deadline is Oct. 25. Families who have benefited from free and reduced lunch in the past must re-register for the 2011 to 2012 school year. Those who do not re-register by Oct. 25 will be charged full price for meals.
