Council Candidate: Shane McCartney

In the days leading up to the election on July 26, we'll provide you with profiles to reacquaint the public with those running.

Editor's note: Each day leading up to the election on July 26 we will re-feature one council candidate profile. We will also be sending all the council candidates questions to answer. If you would like to submit a question, please contact Editor Clare Kennedy at clare.kennedy@patch.com.

Shane Wyatt McCartney, 36, is a farmer market vendor and volunteer. McCartney has lived in Burnsville for just over a year.

When asked why he is running for council, McCartney wrote "As a younger, impartial candidate, I decided to run for council in order to promote (Burnsville's) economic strengths. I plan to do this without any salary or benefits associated with the position."

When asked about Burnsville's strengths and weaknesses, McCartney wrote, "The city and its communities have several encouraging signs of strengths. It’s one of the reasons why my wife and I relocated to Burnsville from Canton, Ohio. I am confident that Burnsville will continue to improve and challenge any weak concerns."

When asked what he would do if elected, McCartney said "I am a results-oriented person and there are many budgetary concerns. I would like to introduce a few concepts to aid (Burnsville's) tourism industry as well as focus on a mixture of future economic enhancements. We are still part of the great recession and we have to keep a careful eye on future budgetary needs but remain dedicated to find responsible economic progress."
