Council Candidate: Bruce Johnson

In the days leading up to the election on July 26, we'll provide you with profiles to reacquaint the public with those running.

Editor's note: Each day leading up to the election on July 26 we will re-feature one council candidate profile. We will also be sending all the council candidates questions to answer. If you would like to submit a question, please contact Editor Clare Kennedy at clare.kennedy@patch.com.

Bruce Johnson, 46, is operations manager at Burnsville Center. He has lived in Burnsville for 15 years.

When asked why he is running, Bruce wrote, "to help the people in the community to have a bigger voice in their government. Also to work to correct the mistakes made in 'The Heart of the City.'"

According to Johnson, Burnsville's biggest weakness is "the $500,000 in taxes placed on the people in our community for the (Burnsville Performing Arts Center). Also the lack of proper funding to maintain our roads."

The area's biggest assets are "our excellent business community and our tourist attractions, such as Buck Hill Ski Resort and the Burnsville Center," Johnson said.

If elected, Johnson wrote that he "would work to alleviate the tax burden for the Performing Arts Center and find a solution to make 'The Heart of the City' work in our community. I would also support Burnsville working with other cities to find ways to consolidate services to reduce cost and become more efficient."
