Council Candidate: Aaron Hoy

In the days leading up to the election on July 26, we'll provide you with profiles to reacquaint the public with those running.

Editor's note: Each day leading up to the election on July 26 we will re-feature one council candidate profile. We will also be sending all the council candidates questions to answer. If you would like to submit a question, please contact Editor Clare Kennedy at clare.kennedy@patch.com.

Aaron Hoy, 32, is a computer systems engineer. He has lived in Burnsville just over two years.

When asked why he is running for council, Hoy wrote "For the past several years I have felt the need and desire to serve the people. I believe the best place for me to do that on a grand scale is in a public office. Since moving to Burnsville I have fallen in love with the city and the people who live here."

In Hoy's opinion, Burnsville's strength is "by far are its dedicated and loyal residents. I’ve found that the residents really care about their city and want to keep it as a great place to live."

On the other hand, Hoy cited "budgeting and spending issues" as an area that could use improvement.

"One example of spending waste that I can see off hand is the addition to another traffic signal on Nicollet in the Heart of the City," Hoy wrote. "There are already too many to begin with and by adding of another one will bring even more congestion to the area."

If elected, Hoy wrote that he would "like to make Burnsville a thriving community. In the two years that I’ve lived here I have noticed numerous empty business spaces in the Heart of the City and in other areas around town as well. Why? I would really like to create a city that is enticing for businesses to open in. The bottom line is, more businesses means more jobs."
