This story and others in a weekly roundup of city news.

Grant intended to increase pedestrian safety near high school

In an effort to increase pedestrian safety, the Minnesota Department of Transportation awarded a $107,000 Safe Routes to School grant for a new trail from the Highway 13 trail, a new concrete sidewalk around the bike racks and in-street school crossing signs. The project must be completed by Dec. 31 or the end of the fall semester, whichever is later.

The funding is part of a $3.8 million federal grant to MnDOT for projects across the state to improve bicycling and walking conditions to schools.
