Burnsville Polling Precincts: Then and Now

Burnsville City Clerk Macheal Brooks offered the city council a glimpse of the city's new precinct map formulated in the wake of the legislative redistricting plan.

When Minnesota's redistricting plan was released on Feb. 21, a little over a third of Burnsville's 17 precincts were divided by the new lines.

"They were split and needed to be redrawn, but we tried to keep as many lines the same as we could," City Clerk Macheal Brooks said during a workshop with the city council on Tuesday. "We also tried to pay attention to senate district boundaries and population."

Brooks said most polling sites should draw between 3,500 to 4,000 people. There are a few new sites: Eden Baptist Church, which is still under construction, and Burnhaven Library, which previously was on hiatus due to renovations. The council will formally consider the new precinct map at its upcoming meeting on Tuesday. The public is invited to attend and comment on the map.
