Burnsville Names Three Finalists for City Manager

The city has narrowed a field of more than 30 applicants to just three: An insider, an administrator of a nearby city and a contender from the northern Twin City suburbs.

With less than three days left on the clock for retiring City Manager Craig Ebeling, the City of Burnsville has announced the top three candidates for its top spot.

Recruiting consultant Springsted Incorporated began with a pool of 32 candidates, which was whittled to five and now three. The three finalists were chosen by a council-appointed panel consisting of five city staff and two community members.

The top three candidates are:

  • Heather Johnston, Director of Administrative Services and Chief Financial Officer at the City of Burnsville.
  • Mark McNeill, city administrator of Shakopee.
  • And Walter Wysopal, city manager of North St. Paul.

The council will interview the remaining three on April 2. 

Ebeling's last day is March 29. Steve Albrecht, Burnsville's public works director, will serve as the interim city manager until a replacement is hired.
