Burnsville named City of Excellence

Burnsville is singled out for its effective use of volunteers by state advocacy group.

Burnsville was singled out for its effective use of volunteers and has been selected for the City of Excellence Award for 2011 by the League of Minnesota Cities.

According to the League’s website, “The awards are designed to recognize accomplishments —  large and small — that enhance the vitality and quality of life in Minnesota cities.”

The winners were named during the LMC annual conference held June 15-17 in Rochester. Other cities selected are Maplewood, North St. Paul, Albertville, Hanover, St. Michael and Medina.

Each first place-winning city receives a cash prize of $1,000 and a commemorative plaque. Winning cities are also featured in League press releases and other statewide publicity efforts.

The city will officially receive the award during its June 21 City Council meeting.

The League of Minnesota Cities represents 800 cities and provides advocacy and policy development for its membership.
