Crews worked through the night near the intersection of County Road 11 and Interstate 35E to fix the hole, which was caused by a break in a water main. The hole measured about 30 feet by 30 feet, and closed two lanes of traffic.

City representatives said the culprit was a 50-year-old cast iron pipe that was located approximately 20 feet deep below County Road 11. The water main break was discovered at about 6:00 last night. Crews arrived to find a shallow break in the roadway, with water coming up from the ground beneath.

Several businesses near the water main break, including a hair salon, a Subway restaurant and a floral shop are going without water while the crews do their work today.

The northbound side of CR 11 is open with traffic flowing smoothly, but officials still urged Burnsville residents to find alternate routes. A detour has been established on Palomino Drive to the east.
