Nationwide Warrant Issued for Burnsville Man Charged with Child Sex Crime, Assault

A nationwide arrest warrant has been issued for a Burnsville man charged with assaulting a Burnsville woman.

Stephen Richard Angotti, 28, is on pretrial release on charges that he had inappropriate sexual contact with a child of 5. Those charges were filed in January in Dakota County District Court. 

The new charges against Angotti are both felonies: third-degree assault and domestic assault, each of which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Police say a woman came to the Burnsville police station just before 11 p.m. Oct. 26 to report a domestic assault, according to the new criminal complaint.

The woman said she had asked Angotti, her ex-boyfriend, to look after her two sons, 3 years old and 11 months old, while she ran errands that evening. She said that when she returned just before 9 p.m., she watched television and drank some wine.

She told police that she put her children to bed and then asked Angotti to leave. He refused and began arguing; the woman said she “got into [his] face] and told him again to leave, at which point Angotti punched her on the right side of her face, knocking her to the ground.

Angotti ran upstairs, and the woman said she got up and followed him. When she got upstairs, she asked him again to leave and followed him back downstairs, where he kicked a closet door hard enough to break it, then left through a sliding glass door, according to the complaint.

Angotti, who is scheduled to go on trial on charges of first- and second-degree criminal sexual conduct on April 1, is on pretrial release in that case. Among the conditions of his release are that he remain law-abiding, have no contact with the victim and stay away from the home where the abuse occurred, the same home where the victim in the domestic abuse case lives, according to court records.

Angotti was released on the January charges on the condition that he live with his father. Officers investigating the domestic assault charges found that he has  no permanent address and that he hasn’t shown up for work since the assault was reported.

The victim suffered a sinus fracture and a fracture of the bone around her eye as a result of the incident, according to medical records.

Angotti’s criminal history includes convictions for violating a restraining order and fifth-degree assault, both in 2004.
