Sheriff: Dakota County Sees 'Unprecedented' Number of Gun Permit Applications

So far this year, Dakota County staff have processed 1,537 new permit to carry applications, plus nearly 300 renewals and address changes, according to Dakota County Sheriff Dave Bellows.

In 2012, which broke the previous annual record by 65 percent, the county processed 2,814 permit forms over the course of the year. County staff are currently working overtime and weekends just to keep up with the permit demand, Bellows said in the weekly Sheriff's newsletter.

The rate of the permit applications in "unprecedented," the sheriff said.
