Police Learn Young Child Left Home Alone While Father at Bar

Burnsville Police found the man with a woman at a bar while his wife was away on a business trip.

Police arrested a Burnsville man at a bar after discovering that he had left his 4-year-old daughter home alone, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported

Richard Donald Moore, 47, was charged with child neglect in the incident, which occurred in the early morning hours of July 19.

According to the complaint, Moore's daughter went to a neighbor's house in her pajamas and told the resident there that she had become scared after a bad dream and could not find her father. The neighbor waited about an hour, in case the girl's parents should show up, before calling police.

Burnsville Police spoke with the girl's mother, who was on a business trip in another state. She told police that Moore was suppose to be watching the girl and gave police Moore's phone number and the locations of places he frequented.

Police then found Moore with a woman at a bar and determined that he had left his daughter home alone from between two and three and a half hours.

Moore was arrested and a relative took the child home until the mother's return.
