Man Charged with Kicking, Threatening Burnsville Officers

Police allege that Troy Blaine Almhjeld, 34, got upset and combative when asked to leave a Burnsville hotel room.

A local man landed in the county lockup after a tussle with officers from the Burnsville Police Department. Troy Blaine Almhjeld, 34, faces four charges after an incident at Burnsville hotel on Friday morning.

Officers from the BPD were called to the hotel on Aldrich Avenue South by an employee, who wanted to evict the occupants of a room on the second floor after receiving complaints from other guests. Burnsville officers accompanied the employee to the door. Almhjeld answered. According to the criminal complaint, Almhjeld became "very upset" when told to leave. As the argument escalated, police say Almhjeld began to swear and approached officers aggressively, thrusting his finger in an officer's face, at which time police on the scene "took control of him so that he would not assault them."

The authors of the report say that Almhjeld resisted and a struggle ensued. Officers pulled him out to the parking lot, where they tried to place a hobble device on his legs. The complaint alleges that Almhjeld bucked, spat and told the officers he wished he had a gun.

The BPD contends that Almhjeld kicked one officer in the thigh. Another managed to get Almhjeld's right foot into the hobble restraint, but allegedly got kicked in the face by the man's left foot.

Almhjeld is charged with making terroristic threats — a felony which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine — as well as two charges of fourth-degree assault and one count of obstruction of the legal process, all gross misdemeanors.
