Officers encountered an intoxicated man, later identified as Mahmoud, standing outside the apartment holding a baby. The child’s mother told them that she and Mahmoud had been arguing, and during the argument Mahmoud became angry and kicked the baby seat in which their daughter was sitting.

The baby seat flipped over and the child landed face down on the floor, the woman told police. The baby began to cry, and the woman said she was afraid the child was dying, so she called 911.

Paramedics found a purple mark on the baby’s right cheek.

The woman told police that Mahmoud has assaulted her at least 15 times, most recently two days earlier. She showed them bruises on her upper left arm and on her right side that she said were the result of the most recent assault.
