Man Arrested in Burnsville Charged with Felony Meth Possession

The Dakota County Drug Task Force was involved in the case.

An Apple Valley man was arrested in Burnsville last week after the Dakota County Drug Task Force received a tip that he would be transporting methamphetamine in his vehicle.

Jeffrey Arvin Cheng, 36, was charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance, a felony that carries four to 40 years in prison and up to $1 million in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, a trooper from the Minnesota State Patrol stopped Cheng at Interstate 35W and McAndrews Road.

Dakota County Drug Task Force agents then searched the vehicle. They used a screwdriver to take off the bottom part of the dashboard where they found two plastic bags. The substance in the bags later tested to contain a total of 25.92 grams of meth.

Agents also searched his home in Apple Valley where they found more meth, bringing the total weight to 26.26 grams of meth found in Cheng's vehicle and home.

His first court appearance was Aug. 1. His next appearance is an omnibus hearing scheduled for Aug. 20.
